The EU AgRI 2040 Conference – “Future-proofing EU Agri-Food through research and innovation” is taking place on 24–25 September 2026 in Brussels, bringing together policymakers, researchers, farmers, foresters, businesses, innovators, advisers and other stakeholders to discuss the future of research and innovation across agriculture, forestry and rural areas.
The conference marks an important step in the implementation of the European Commission’s new strategic approach to research and innovation, AgRI 2040, which aims to strengthen the connection between research, innovation and practical uptake across the agri-food sector. The event provides an opportunity for stakeholders to contribute to the identification and development of future research and innovation priorities, with discussions focusing on how new knowledge and solutions can be effectively translated into practice.
For the forestry sector, the programme includes a dedicated thematic focus on multifunctional forests, alongside discussions on climate change and biodiversity, the bioeconomy, rural areas, stronger agri-food value chains, and digitalisation, AI and robotics. These themes are closely connected to the challenges and opportunities facing Europe’s forests and rural communities.
SMURF follows these discussions with particular interest, as the project works towards supporting small forest holders and strengthening their capacity to navigate current and future challenges in the forestry sector.
